Technologies We Build With
The mobile, web, backend, AI and cloud technologies our Australian team builds with, and how we choose between them.
Smarterapps Ai is an Australian AI and app development company that has been designing, building and supporting software since 2010. We don’t sell one tool. We pick the technology that suits your users, your existing systems and the people who will maintain the product after launch, and we explain that choice in writing before the build starts. This page sets out the technologies we work with and links to a detailed page for each.
Ask which stack fits your project
How we choose a tech stack
- Your users first: who uses the product, on which devices, and what they need it to do
- Your existing systems: the CRM, finance, identity and data platforms the product has to connect to
- Who maintains it: if your team will take over the code, we favour tools they already know
- Long-term support: well-supported, widely used technology with a healthy talent pool in Australia
- Privacy and hosting: where data must live, with Australian hosting regions available
Mobile apps
React Native
One code base for iPhone and Android with real native components. Our usual choice for cross-platform mobile apps, especially alongside a React web platform. → React Native app development
Flutter
Google’s cross-platform toolkit, written in Dart. A good fit for existing Flutter apps, Dart teams and pixel-identical custom designs. → Flutter app development
Native iOS: Swift and SwiftUI
For iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch apps that rely on device features, performance or platform-specific experiences. → iPhone & iPad app development
Native Android: Kotlin
For Android apps that need deep device access, background work or demanding performance. → Android app development
Not sure which mobile approach suits you? → React Native vs Flutter: which should you choose?
Web apps, portals and websites
React
Interactive web apps behind a login: dashboards, portals, admin consoles, internal tools and SaaS front ends. → React web app development
Next.js
The React framework for public-facing sites and full-stack web apps, with server rendering so pages load fast and are easy for search engines to read. → Next.js development
Laravel and PHP
Mature, practical web apps, portals and APIs, plus support for existing PHP systems that need upgrading or extending. → Laravel & PHP development
Business apps
Staff, field and customer apps built around how your business actually runs. → Business app development
Backends, APIs and business systems
Python and Node.js
Secure APIs, data pipelines, integrations and the backend services behind apps and AI features. Python for AI and data work, Node.js for fast, real-time services. → Python & Node.js development
.NET and Azure
Business systems, APIs and integrations for organisations that run on Microsoft, including Azure hosting and Microsoft 365 connections. → .NET development
Integrations
Connections to CRMs, finance systems such as Xero and MYOB, document stores and industry platforms. → Workflow automation · Xero & MYOB automation
AI and large language models
LLM and OpenAI integration
OpenAI, Azure OpenAI, Claude and private models built into your apps and workflows, grounded in your data with retrieval (RAG), guardrails and cost controls. → LLM & GPT integration
AI agents
Agents that carry out multi-step work across your systems, with people approving the actions that matter. → AI agents
Document AI
Extract, check and route the data in invoices, forms and contracts. → Document AI
AI apps
Products where AI does real work inside the app. → AI app development
Cloud, hosting and devices
AWS and other major clouds
Scalable, monitored infrastructure, with Australian hosting regions available when data needs to stay onshore. → Sovereign AI & privacy
IoT and Bluetooth
Apps and platforms that work with sensors, beacons and other connected hardware. → IoT development · Beacon apps
Work our team has delivered
All projects were delivered by our team: Smarterapps Ai, part of the Combine TRS group. We choose the stack for each project on its merits, so these show the kind of work we do rather than one technology.
- Rideshare platform for an Australian operator (name withheld by agreement): rider and driver apps for iOS and Android plus an operations console, live on both stores
- RideScore Active Schools with We Ride Australia and Sunshine Coast Council: parent apps, admin portal, backend and Bluetooth beacon readers installed at every pilot school
- Treasury Wine Estates: IoT inventory monitoring with a machine learning platform for dashboards, forecasts and alerts
- NEXTDC: a server-monitoring app for data-centre customers, connected to NEXTDC’s own systems
- Octfolio: an asbestos auditing iPad app with offline use
Frequently asked questions
Which technology do you recommend?
It depends on your product. We recommend a stack during discovery, in writing, with the reasons and trade-offs, so you can make the decision with confidence.
Can you work with our existing code base?
Yes. We regularly take over, stabilise and extend existing apps and systems. We start with a code and build review before any major work.
Do you build both mobile and web?
Yes. Many projects combine a mobile app, a web admin portal and a backend, and we build all three.
Can our data be hosted in Australia?
Yes. Australian hosting regions are available on the major clouds, and we design to the Australian Privacy Principles.
Do I own the code?
Yes. You own the source code and IP, and the accounts it runs on.
Not sure where to start? Tell us what you want to build and we’ll recommend the right technology, with the reasons in writing.
