What is an iBeacon?
iBeacon is Apple’s protocol for Bluetooth Low Energy beacons — small transmitters that let nearby phones and gateways detect how close they are. Android and other devices can use similar BLE beacon formats such as Eddystone.
Is beacon technology still relevant?
Yes, for the right jobs. Beacons remain one of the most cost-effective ways to do indoor wayfinding, asset tracking and presence, and they pair well with AI analytics and modern Bluetooth features in phones and gateways.
How accurate are beacons?
Beacons are best at zone-level accuracy — which room, aisle or area — rather than exact coordinates. Placement, density and signal processing make a big difference.
Do visitors need to install an app?
For phone-based experiences, yes. For asset tracking and occupancy, fixed gateways detect beacon tags without any app on staff or visitor phones.
Do you supply beacon hardware?
